For the fourth year in a row, Innovative Software Engineering (ISE) has been named to the Corridor Business Journal’s Fastest-Growing Companies list. The list recognizes the top 25 fastest-growing companies in the Corridor’s seven-county area, and ISE was number 21.
ISE was founded in 2002 by Hass Machlab in the basement of his house. From there, the company moved into the University of Iowa’s Technology Innovation Center, and later to the Oakdale Research Park in Coralville. The growth hasn’t stopped since.
In May 2011, ISE opened an 11,000-square-foot facility in Coralville, and today employs nearly 60 people. The company’s rapid growth has made it one of the fastest growing companies in the Creative Corridor four years running.
ISE is a software engineering and systems integration firm that delivers innovative, end-to-end mobile and enterprise solutions that help companies solve even the most complex business challenges. ISE specializes in mobile application development, vehicle telematics, big data solutions, and just about any software engineering challenge.
ISE’s sister company, ISE Fleet Services, provides commercial fleets such as FedEx Ground contractors with eFleetSuite, an end-to-end system that includes the mDash 4, a low cost rugged in-cab computer with a touch screen display. This component acts as a personal “safety assistant” that helps drivers in real time to stay within safety and compliance parameters for their electronic driver logs and driver vehicle inspection reports. Mobile applications provide information to improve roadside inspections. Safety and compliance managers, fleet managers, dispatchers and maintenance personnel use web applications for real time and paperless compliance monitoring and resource management.
“ISE’s extensive knowledge of compliance software, the products’ ease of use and ISE’s ability to customize them persuaded us to work with them more than three years ago,” said Braxton Vick, senior vice president with Southeastern Freight Lines. “We chose ISE Electronic Driver Logs for its ease of use, FMCSA compliance and off-the-shelf features which allowed for quick implementation using our existing hardware. When we decided that we needed to upgrade our mobile fleet management technology, it was critical that the new system allow us to continue using the ISE driver log and DVIR solutions and other proprietary applications we had built.”
ISE’s portfolio contains clients in 41 states and 6 countries, including some of the industry’s largest companies such as Rockwell Collins, the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and John Deere. The firm also works with local organizations such as MediRevv, Foundations in Learning and the University of Iowa and contracts with local companies such as Sculpt for its social media and other needed services.
With an eye to the future, ISE is nearly complete with a new rebranding. The firm partnered with the brand strategy group Aloft and embarked on a 360-degree feedback process to see how past and present clients view the company.
“It has been an honor to be recognized for our differentiation in exceptional customer service, end-to-end custom solutions and business-minded engineers, all of which allow us to develop long-lasting, trusted, and strategic partnerships with our clients”, said Hass Machlab, CEO of ISE.
ISE’s employees’ top three strengths as identified by Gallup’s StrengthsFinders 2.0 system are ‘learner,’ ‘achiever’ and ‘responsibility.’ Additionally, 27 percent of the company’s employees hold master’s degrees. A competitive internship program that has attracted highly qualified college students from around the state for over 10 years.
Engineers at ISE are continually learning new technologies and applying them to their everyday work. ISE actively recruits well-rounded engineers who possess an unusual combination of technical proficiency, real-world experience and solid business acumen. The result is a mix of flexibility, maturity and expertise that consistently delivers outstanding results for their client partners. The collaborative experience ISE creates for their clients is as important to them as the solutions they provide.
The company’s reputation for excellence has been noted through numerous awards. ISE has been awarded the CBJ’s Coolest Places to Work (2013) and Fastest Growing Companies (2012, 2013 and 2014) awards, and named to the Des Moines Register’s Top Workplaces list (2013 and 2014). Community service, as well as creating a fun and balanced work-life environment, is a priority for the ISE team. It’s this unique culture that drives high employee engagement and satisfaction.
