Commitment to Community
At ISE, we recognize how important it is to give back to the community, so we’ve created an employee-led Philanthropy Committee to help organize and promote initiatives that create impact for residents in our area. These yearly events include onsite blood drives, raising money and collecting donations for nonprofits such as the Johnson County Crisis Center, United Way of Johnson County, and ISU Lunabotics Club, and volunteering to pack meals for Kids Against Hunger. Recently, ISE held a toilet paper drive, collecting 522 pounds of toilet paper for the Johnson County Crisis Center (pictured right).
Employees also have volunteered time with the FIRST Robotics Challenge in two local high schools, Iowa City and West Branch. ISE sponsors the West Branch robotics team, CyBears. Additionally, ISE has participated in Kirkwood’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) for Young Scientists, a collaboration of University of Iowa Health Care and Workplace Learning Connection for 7th grade students.
In 2015, ISE donated $125 per employee, for a total of more than $6,000 to the Community Foundation distributed to the Endowment Fund of the employee’s choice.
ISE Coding Garage
For the past 10 years, ISE has provided a competitive internship program that has attracted highly qualified college students from around the state. In the summer of 2015, ISE implemented the “ISE Coding Garage,” a program designed to teach high school students how to design and develop their own app with the help of ISE employees and interns. The program not only helps the high school students learn more about app development, but also lets the ISE interns increase their mentorship abilities and team work skills. The ISE Coding Garage is now an annual program, sponsored by the University of Iowa’s Dev Iowa, and the Coralville CoLab.
